MY POTTERY JOURNEY
Ten years ago if you’d told me I would be selling pottery I would have laughed. I have spent my career working in documentary television production, writing yet-to-be published novels and managing a regenerative stock farm near Hay-on-Wye.
As a child I spent many happy hours with the Polish potter Adam Dworski at his Wye Pottery in Clyro but it was not until my 40s that I found the wheel again and began my pottery journey in earnest. Once I started I couldn’t stop!
After a series of Night classes at Hereford College of Art, I signed up for several workshops with Jeremy Stewart at Wobage Gallery and am lucky enough to have been taught by Simon Hulbert of Brook Street Pottery. In 2017 I took the plunge and converted a potting shed in a forgotten corner of the walled kitchen garden at Cabalva House.
Excited and grateful to have found this passion, I hope slowly and quietly to make pots worthy of lifelong love and use in the home.
There is an honesty and simplicity about clay that strips away the noise and confusion of modern living. I love the feel of clay connecting me to millennium of human endeavour. It is addictive and absorbing – joyful and therapeutic.
Every pot is individual and my hope is that each mug, vase or bowl carries with it the joy I experienced making it. From my hands to yours!
